What's the Hold up?

Another Friday has arrived, and you know what that means. Blog time! I wanted to discuss something specific this week, and it's something I have put a lot of thought into. You may have noticed my posts here or on social media lately about Book 1, and how near it is to completion. It is quite close indeed, all that is left to finalize is the artwork and a few more minor details. The story itself is all set. So why do I not plan to release this book until spring? Why wait so long?

There are a few factors that are in play here. The first is, you only get to release your first book once. I feel like I would be doing a disservice to myself and to this story, which I have invested years into, by not giving it the proper buildup. I could probably release it next month if I really wanted to, but would it sell well? Probably not. Would I walk away from the experience happy with myself? Again, probably not. Believe me, I am eager to get this thing out there, but I want to do this release the right way.

Another factor at play is the fact that this is the first book of a rather long series. If you follow this blog, you will know there are several more books in various stages of development. I feel by being patient, I can then move forward with releasing the next book in a more timely fashion. My goal is to have Book 2 scheduled for its edit before Book 1 releases. While I don't think you will ever see a Martin-esque nine-year (and counting, George) gap between books out of me, why not set myself up for regular releases in the future?

I hope this makes sense, and I hope this is helpful for any other writers out there reading this. I understand the urge to release as soon as possible. But always remember who won the race between the tortoise and the hare. Sometimes, the patient approach is the best way to go. Maybe a rapid release is right for you, but remember, you only get one shot at a first release. My plan might not be right for you, but it is essential to have a plan.

What's to come for this release? The first thing I want to do is a map reveal, hopefully in the next few weeks. Then will come the title, the cover, a sample chapter, pre-orders, and much more. Also planning to give away a few copies, so make sure to follow me on social media to be in the loop (links below).
