Welcome back to our standard Friday blog. I hope your first week of post-Nano life has been relaxing. For me, it hasn't been. I've been working on my most difficult challenge to date.
I'm talking, of course, about writing the blurb for my first novel, which will come out in the spring. It's one of the last steps I have to complete. Yet sitting here now, I think I would rather write the book another 879 times than do this. How can something so simple be so complicated? A blurb typically comes in around 200-300 words. That's nothing when you consider the 400,000+ I have already put into this series. But the act of describing your book to a stranger who could decide whether or not to buy it based on what they read in the blurb is daunting. Everything I write, I absolutely despise. I've read the blurb on every book on my shelf, and honestly, what I have isn't bad. But I don't know if I'll ever be satisfied with this. It has to get done; the sooner, the better. I just have to suck it up, get it done, and go with it. Wish me luck! I've written up about six possibilities so far, and I imagine the final version will be a mixture of all of them. Have you ever written a blurb for your book, and how awful was it on a scale of 10-10? In other news, I've officially opened my own publishing house, which is exciting. For the time being, I only plan on using it to publish my own work, but in the future, who knows? Time will tell. I've decided on an official release date, even if I haven't announced it yet. It's staring up at me from the calendar, and it's both thrilling and intimidating. I'm putting together some plans for what I hope will be a very exciting release so stay tuned! We'll be back next week with another blog. As always, feel free to submit topic suggestions, either through the comments below or through social media! ~Pete Follow me on social media!
