I know what you're thinking. Does he mean the area where he works? Or does he mean the 1999 comedy film Office Space? My answer to you is....why not both?
In regards to the first, I have reclaimed my own office space. I lost it back in March when my wife was sent to work from home due to COVID-19. Now that it appears her move is going to be permanent, I helped her set up her own dedicated office space in a spare bedroom. We even bought her an excellent new desk. So, I am back where I belong, in my basement. I still work outside quite often when weather permits. It's so hot here at this time of year that that has become less frequent. So my office space is more valuable now than ever. After spending a few months at the kitchen table, I appreciate it in a way I didn't before. It's not only an office for me; I consider it more of a den, where I come to do things I enjoy. I have a TV with eight or so gaming consoles, from the NES to the PS4 and Switch. I have three six-foot bookshelves loaded to the point where they are at risk of collapse. And I have my writing area. My laptop, which is used almost exclusively for writing and writing-related endeavors. A desktop for everything else, and a printer as well. I have a calendar, as well as a map I drew of the Empire. I built my own desk. I couldn't find anything that suited my needs and was not absurdly expensive. An old closet door, some detachable IKEA legs, and two files cabinets, and it works wonders. I have an actual office as well, but that's where I do my day job. I try to avoid writing there. Writing is a happy time, work that doesn't feel like work. The office is for the work I actually get paid to do, but it really feels a lot like work. I said I would talk about both. If you've ever held an office job and have never seen the 1999 film Office Space, you are missing out. It's so relatable that I don't know if it's hilarious or depressing, but whatever it is, I love it. What is your personal office space like? Can you work anywhere, or do you need a dedicated space to be productive? Until next time, ~Pete Follow me on social media! Instagram Youtube
