Welcome to my blog, where I will occasionally share news, thoughts on the writing/publishing process, or any other inane dribble that creeps into my mind. Enjoy!

Looking Ahead

Happy Friday! Since I spent last week reminiscing about the past year, it seemed fitting that I would devote this blog to looking to the future, specifically, 2021. Do you remember those days at the end of 2019 when we couldn't wait to get to 2020? After all, it just had to be a better year, right? I'm taking a cautiously optimistic look at 2021, but in the end, the year will be what we make of it.

I'm currently sick (not COVID, but still not very fun). It's made for a long week, returning to my day job after a blissful two weeks off. Oh well, I should have known 2020 would want to get its last shots in. It's not too late to get questions in for my Ask Me Anything, which I am hoping to film this weekend, health permitting. Either way, I will have it done in time to post next weekend, taking the place of the standard Friday blog. Send your questions to the comments below or to any of my social media platforms; I'll answer just about anything. The AMA will go up on Saturday since the Christmas holiday falls on Friday.

What are you looking forward to most about 2021? For me, it has to be the release of my first novel in the spring. While many things in the world are still going to be uncertain, this is going to happen! As of right now, the book is about 95% ready for publication, and it's so surreal.
I'm also looking to have its sequel close to publication by the end of 2021, though the release will realistically happen in early 2022. I'll continue to clean up the drafts of books I have already written, and I hope to write the first drafts of a few more. It will require a lot of hard work, but I think I am up to it.

As far as non-work related hopes, I'm really hoping to be able to travel again in 2021. I've especially missed traveling internationally, there is something so liberating about immersing yourself in a different culture. I'm also hoping to add a few more US states to my quest for 50. I'm at 24 right now, so almost halfway there.

Which states should I add to this map next? Oregon is looking lonely up there.

One other thing I'm looking forward to is continuing my journey toward better health. I'll do a dedicated blog to this topic at some point soon, but thus far, I have lost 21 pounds (9.5 kilos) and am feeling good about my progress. This sickness isn't helping, though, so I need to get past it.

Last week, my point was that while 2020 has been a rough year, there have still been bright spots. I suppose my point this week is that even though the future is always uncertain, there are always things to look forward to if you look hard enough. Instead of dwelling on the negatives, try to look for the positives. Bad things are going to happen. We can't change it. But we do get to decide how we respond.

I hope you all have a wonderful, safe holiday season.
