Ideas

Ideas are a funny thing. Do we really know where they come from? I suppose sometimes we do. Sometimes, it feels like a mystery. I was thinking the other day about the various book ideas I have in my head. To my surprise,  I realized I have about ten to twelve books in my head right now. That's not including my Thrawll Saga, the fantasy series I am currently neck-deep in.

One idea that keeps returning to me is a set of four horror/thriller books. They may not even be related to each other, but I know what I want to do for each of them. It's a genre I find is impacted so deeply by setting, and I have the itch to see what I can do with it. I'm guessing one of these will likely end up being the first non-Thrawll book I end up writing, maybe after I wrap up Book 6 and do my first round of edits on it. I have no idea where their ideas come from, other than one, which oddly enough came to me while working if you will believe that. Usually, the least inspiring part of my day, but I honestly believe it spawned a winner.

There's also a space opera up there somewhere, but that's probably the book that is least likely to be written. I loved Star Trek: The Next Generation as a kid. Lately, I've been playing No Man's Sky, and it's hitting all the right cords. I just built myself a lovely ocean side base worthy of an episode of Cribs. But this is an idea which is not fully formed yet, and truthfully, I don't know if there will ever be a coherent enough story there.

I have an idea for a book based on a heist, and I know exactly where this one is coming from. I recently started watching the show Money Heist on Netflix. I usually find heist movies/shows to be uninspiring, but I've really enjoyed this one. I think it's an idea that would challenge me from a creativity standpoint, which I love. Could I produce something worthwhile in a genre that, for the most part, severely lacks new ideas? I don't know, but I kind of want to find out.

Another idea is a survival story that is in the very early stages of percolation. I feel it's another genre that could use an infusion of new ideas, but am I suited to bring some of them? Time will tell.

Have you ever had an idea and had no idea where it came from? What about an idea that just wouldn't go away until you put it on paper? I'd love to hear about them!
