Formatting, Editing, and More

Time for another Friday blog, and this one is gonna be a bit of a variety show. There are a few things I have been working on the past few weeks. First and foremost, we have Book 1, which came back from my editor on August 3rd. I've completed my edits and have the book formatted for print. All that remains is plugging in the map once my artist finishes it, and it will be time to order my first proof copy.

Late last week, I also completed my outline for Book 6, which I will write in November for NaNoWriMo. I was torn on if I wanted to do this one so soon. This trilogy is pretty dark, and each book has been an exhausting experience. But after writing the outline, I'm 100% ready to dive back in. I'm looking forward to wrapping up this story, and already have the next set of books floating in my head. I already have the main character created, and I think it is one that will provide a unique perspective on this fantasy world I am building. I'll say no more about that just yet, though.

Right now, I'm working on a new draft of Book 2. This may be the last draft before sending it to my editor; my reading afterward will determine that. I feel you can over-edit a book, and it may be time to let this one go. I'm enjoying this draft, though. I really love this book. My goal is to have it published no more than a year after Book 1.

Speaking of which, Book 1 has a release date 95% locked in. I won't give you the exact date yet, other than to say it is in the spring of 2021. I'm in the process of establishing my own publishing house, which will publish this series and anything else I write in the future. Who knows? In time, maybe I will publish other writers as well.

Apart from that, not much else is going on in my world, or at least not much else of interest. I'm putting in almost 45 hours a week in my day job, and sometimes more—no end in sight to those fun times. I'm hoping I can actually take a vacation next year and already thinking about possible destinations. This year was going to be Christmas in Germany and Czechia, but I don't think I can wait until December of next year, so we'll see. Hopefully, travel is possible next year.

Wishing you all well,
~Pete
