Welcome back to another Friday blog. I hope your week is going better than mine has been. It has nothing to do with my writing, which has actually been one of the few bright spots. This draft of Book 2 is still coming along, in spite of life's attempts to derail it.
This week has been a good example of the ways in which the "real world" can get in the way of our goals. My day job continues to keep me very busy, with no end in sight. Overtime requirements have really cut into my free time. In addition to that, I've had a horrible time trying to sleep this week. I woke up at 4:30 am on Monday, not a great start to the week. Things haven't gotten much better from there. A mentally exhausting job plus little rest does not equal creative productivity, let me tell you. But still, I manage it as best I can and keep chugging along. The situation at work is unlikely to improve for the rest of the year, so it's not like this is an issue I can just wait out for a few weeks. I need to stay on track, and that means finding ways to work around the chaos. It requires sacrifice in other areas, for example, I have hardly had a chance to game or read for several weeks now. I hope to carve out some reading time this coming weekend. At least I have managed to remain productive. In good news, I have a vacation coming up, an actual vacation. An old friend is coming to visit and we are going to get out and do some stuff, as responsibly as possible, of course. My wife and I are hoping to take a vacation together in October as well. Hopefully the weeks will give me a chance to recharge the batteries for what is likely to be a hectic remainder of the year.
